The inherent dangers of office

- you will get what you want
- you will think you know enough to make decisions without advice
-you will cultivate those who itch your ears
- bureaubrats will clone to suit your every need - including invisible clothes should that be your fancy. For more on the invisible clothes of the planet click here

Anyone who has worked in the public service in a politically sensitive area ( say environment) knows how free speech and scientifically sound talk can disappear from the building entirely.

---At the time of writing this note (24th Nov 2009) ( to help explain why Rudd can get it so Wrong over ETS ; and the opposition liberal party seems unable to see the danger)there is a high percentage of career public servants across commonwealth and state who are hanging in there ready to retire;many of them survived the last 20yrs of politicization by either not saying what they think, or because they were offered a job to do what somePC correct someone thinks is a very good idea .Leaders with a career across the PS can only do this of course if they think they know better than the person who left.Amazing how much you can appear to know if you choose the right words carefully .

Either way even the leadership in the bureau know something, they are saying nothing about that.

Moving Forward- If it feels right , its probably wrong

Nothing makes me more want to throw up, than the careless use of this shallow and myopic view --esp in election campaigns. Would you believe its the theme of our local alliance this November.
The thing a real pawn should remember is that moving forward, while it is the natural thing to do, its not something you do on your own advice if you want to win . An alliance of pawns (esp raw pawns)is doubly dangerous because they encourage each other to all think the same - just one direction and one direction only . Fellowcouncillors tarred with the same urgency itch to move forward will leave the team mated and checkmated.

Most of those who use this old and inadequate myth clearly don't understand how real progress works - in fits and starts, and mainly, in long established western democracies - on the hard work of shawing up the system -not moving so far ahead that you find yourself alone and without a strategy that will keep you from the predictable defeat that lies ahead . And defeat we trust ahead for those who do not know who to trust. Posted 21st November 2008. Study the pawn you silly prawns !

Vilification legislation

The Victorian parliament has witnessed some great moments. Moments when the Politically correct took second place to matters of foresight and principle .Not recently, however .
The hamfisted and dangerous( more likey to cut freedom of speech)R&RV legislation went through without hardly a murmor by the very aged Age Newspaper .The Age missed the most obviuos news essence of the time - standing on the steps of parliament during the debate were the most varied and diverse group of political elements ever to get together - Voltaire would have probably have been there.
Why wasn't the Age?
No wonder we don't buy The Age anymore.

Bracks has shown himself patheticly vulnerable to groups whe don't know the danger of good intentions. So much for the left and its learning curves?

basis for real progress

“ Progress, far from consisting in change, depends on retentiveness …. Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it “. From George Santayana (1863-1952)
